Chapter 14: Gideon Simmons

It was already apparent in Gideon’s mind and soul that tonight was going to be one to remember. As he shifted his eyes away from Tai Hill, Gideon had to take a deep breath to stop himself from inappropriately becoming excited from her image. Tai was sexy as hell in that white mini-dress, and if never noticed before, there was something brewing between them that could only be understood as a word that he was constantly running away from. Love.

“Yo, Gid, what’s good fam,” Earnest dapped Gideon up as he entered the party with his wife on his arm. Earnest was another buddy of Tank’s and he too had been eager to help the young buck set himself up to build an empire. Earnest was no longer hustling, having got out of the game years ago, but he not only came out on top, he was also considered one of the ones who played the game right on the streets of Houston. Gideon had met Earnest a few times, and every time they met, Earnest showed him love on the strength of their mutual friendship with Tank. After Earnest, several other O.G.’s from Houston showed up, and Gideon now realized what Tank’s big announcement was. He just wondered what that meant for him.

Tai had to run upstairs to get Chiasa, because Tank refused to serve dinner without her, and while the group waited on the girls to return, Gideon listened as Earnest candidly told stories of his own hustling days. Gideon felt like he had yet to be truly tested, and listening to some of the things Earnest had to go through, Gideon knew that his hard times were coming. As Tai entered back into the party, Chiasa following behind her, Gideon’s heart beat sped up a bit. There was an empty seat next to him, and one across from him, and Gideon felt like a little boy when her sweet smell chose the one next to him. Chiasa sat across from Gideon, but she avoided his eyes. She had seen him in the club the other night, but she really wondered what he was doing here. Of course everyone knew that Gideon was working for Tank, but Chiasa never thought that Gideon was close enough to be invited to a setting like this. For the first time in a while, she realized just how out of touch she’d been while she’d been on her spree of parties, sex, and drugs.

Earnest continued with his story, but Gideon was lost in thoughts of Tai. Nothing made him nervous, especially not a female, but Tai was so supreme that Gideon felt like a little school boy with a crush. He sat up straighter in his chair to appear unbothered by the nearness of her vicinity, and though he’d tapped out of Earnest’s story, he gave a hearty chuckle right along with the rest of the crew.

Bianca served dinner, and it was some of the best food that Gideon had in years.
